Westminster coroner for Caroline Weatherill lecture

by isleofman.com 28th August 2012

The coroner who presided over the MI6 spy-in-a-bag case is to give a talk to the Island's legal profession next month.

Dr Fiona Wilcox has been invited by the Isle of Man Law Society to give the annual Caroline Weatherill lecture, this year sponsored by Douglas law firm Appleby.

Dr Wilcox is qualified as a barrister and a doctor, and previously worked as a house doctor at the old Noble's hospital on Westmoreland Road.

She's now Westminster coroner, and is expected to talk about some of the high profile cases which come to her court, among them that of MI6 agent Gareth Williams, whose body was found inside a bag in the bath of his flat in London.

Dr Wilcox concluded Mr Williams was unlawfully killed, after considering theories he may have zipped himself inside the holdall during a bizarre game.

The annual lecture was established in 2007 in memory of Caroline Weatherill, an advocate with Dickinson Cruickshank who died at an early age the previous year.
