by isleofman.com 25th August 2012

The final full qualifying session for the 2012 Manx Grand Prix races was abandoned last night after an incident on the first lap.

The session was red flagged at 7.20pm after a rider came off on Quarterbridge Road by the junction with Alexander Drive.

He was airlifted to Nobles Hospital for assessment of his injuries, but no further details on the accident have been released. The road from Selborne Drive to the Quarterbridge remained closed to traffic for several hours after the incident.

The practice had been late starting after an earlier road traffic accident by the 11th milestone.

Roads are due to close at 5pm this afternoon ahead of the the three lap Newcomers (A, B and C) race scheduled to start at 5.30pm.

This will be followed by a practice session for all other classes with roads due to open again no later than 9pm.
