Coastguard: stay safe near the sea

The Island's Coastguard service is urging parents to ensure youngsters stay safe when they're playing near the sea.

Operations officer Michael MacDonald has spoken after the tragic death of four year old Dylan Cecil who fell off a jetty at Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset, when he slipped.

Although his parents jumped in after him, Dylan disappeared in seconds.

Burnham has one of the highest tidal ranges in the world and strong underwater currents are common.

Mr MacDonald says although the Isle of Man does not have such dangerous sea currents around beaches, some exploits youngster indluge in are an ongoing concern:
