Island vet completes 500 mile trek in Pyrenees

by isleofman.com 22nd August 2012

An Island vet has completed a 500 mile trek through the French Pyrenees.

Edric Cross from Arg Beiyn Veterinary Practice walked 15 to 18 miles a day to complete the marathon walk from Hendaye on the French Atlantic coast to Banyules-sur-Mer on the Mediterranean coast in 28 days - at least 12 days faster than the usually recommended time for the trek.

He says the challenge was a lot harder than he had anticipated and meant walking for up to 12 hours a day . . . . with climbs of up to 2,800 metres.

Mr Cross lost 22lb in weight and wore out a brand new pair of walking boots during the walk, in which he raised over ?1,100 for Arg Beiyn's charities The Manx Wildlife Trust and Hounds for Heroes.
