End of an era for MEA

by isleofman.com 18th August 2012

The end of an era.

That's how chairman of the Manx Electricity Authority Eddie Lowey has described the closing of MEA retail on the Island.

It's the final day of trading for the Authority's retail sector after a closing down sale was held over the last week.

The Ramsey showroom will remain open for Customer Services only until the end of August and the Douglas showroom likewise until the end of September.

The MEA’s Appliance Repairs Department will also close at the end of next month.

Mr Lowey says it's a sad time for all the staff who have worked in the shops - but their loss-making position could not continue.

He believes the Board has made the right decision for the benefit of MEA Customers in the long-term.

The retail shops owned by the MEA are currently being marketed for sale.
