MEA Retail Closes

by isleofman.com 15th August 2012

The doors of MEA Retail on the Island will regrettably close for the last time on Saturday 19 August, following the Closing Down sale this week.

The majority of stock has now been sold and consequently our Ramsey showroom will remain open for Customer Services only until the end of August and the Douglas showroom likewise until the end of September.

The MEA’s Appliance Repairs Department will also close at the end of September.

Chairman Eddie Lowey MLC said, “This is the end of an era and most of us will not remember a time when there was not an electrical retail showroom associated with the main electricity provider on the Island and that will be a big change for many people who have traditionally visited our shops.  It is also a sad time for the staff that will leave us as a result of the closure, and I would like to thank them for their loyalty and wish them all the best for the future.”

Mr Lowey went on to say, “Unfortunately the loss-making position of the shops could not continue and I believe the Board have made the right decision for the benefit of our Customers in the long-term.  During this period of transition we will continue to monitor our customer needs and adapt accordingly to ensure we continue to provide a prompt and efficient service, particularly from our Headquarters at the IoM Business Park in Braddan.”

Mr Lowey added, “The MEA shops have occupied prime locations on our high streets and I am sure they will have a bright future for the people in those areas.  It is time for us to look to the future and not live in the past”.

• The retail shops owned by the MEA are currently being marketed for sale.
• There are a number of alternative ways to pay an electricity bill or speak to a member of the Customer Services Team http://www.gov.im/lib/docs/mea/questionsandanswersretail.pdf.
• Appliance Warranties will be honoured and a Warranty Management Agent has been appointed to deal with customers’ warranty issues after 30 September 2012.
