People power not horse power will be propelling two tramcars head to head along Douglas promenade on September 22nd when a tram push sponsored by Cable and Wireless is held to raise funds for The Children’s Centre.
Organised by Douglas Development Partnership the event will challenge teams to cover a 50-metre section of the track along Strathallan Crescent.
The challenge is open to 16 male, female and mixed teams, - each of which must comprise five members including one reserve - and to eight single entries. Registration for groups is £100 per team and £30 for individuals. All entry fees will be donated entirely to The Children’s Centre.
Douglas town centre manager Gill Anderson said: ‘The Douglas horse tram service is a much loved sight on the promenade throughout the summer, but the season will have ended on September 16th, so this tram push will offer another – rather different – sight a few days later.
‘We see the tram push as the perfect team-building exercise, so we’re hoping to attract entries from local businesses and, of course, from solo entrants as well who want to release their inner strongman…or woman.
‘We’re delighted that Cable and Wireless is supporting the event which is in aid of a truly deserving cause. The Douglas horse tram service is viewed upon by many with great affection. This tram push offers its fans a rare opportunity to get ‘up close and personal’ quite literally with a tram car operating on what is acknowledged as one of the oldest surviving tramways in the world.’
