Manx residents will be able to follow in Peter Kennaugh’s steps this weekend and aim to achieve gold medal accreditation in Crossroads Care’s fundraising event, the ‘Mini Olympic Games’.
Local sports clubs and associations will be taking over Nobles Park on Sunday 12th August from 1pm – 4pm and offering families the chance to try a variety of sports including football, rugby, judo, athletics, gymnastics, tennis, hockey, BMX and basketball. A disability multi-sport area will also be available.
The event is aimed at families but adults can also take part. Sports clubs will also be hosting small challenges for the chance to be awarded certificates and medals – or just for fun.
Steve Babb Photography will be running an Olympic Torch photo shoot with local man Roger Davies who carried the torch earlier this year. Imagination Station and Glitter Mine Henna Mine will be providing Olympic themed face painting and glitter tattoos and Grill in the Park will be feeding hungry athletes with family friendly meals and a big BBQ.
Crossroads ask for a small donation of £5 per family to take part in the event to support their work on the island. Crossroads Care provides respite for carers looking after a loved one and meaningful care to those with a disability, illness, frailty, substance abuse or mental health issue. All funds raised from the event will provide additional care hours for carers and their families.
You can pre-register to take part in the event online at www.crossroadsiom.org or register from 1pm on the day at Nobles Park (opposite the Pavilion). For more information, contact Alex Wilson Event Coordinator on 673103 or 453308 or awilson@crossroadsiom.org.
