Teare disappointed by unemployment rise

Treasury Minister Eddie Teare says he’s disappointed but not despondent after a rise in unemployment last month.

The number of people out of work topped 1,000 in July – a rate of 2.3 per cent.

Mr Teare says the rise defies trends in previous years when more people find seasonal or summer jobs.

But with retail and catering particularly hard-hit, he says students returning to the Island for the summer are finding it difficult to find work:
