Cronkbourne win cements position at top of Cain League

by isleofman.com 6th August 2012

Cronkbourne are now the clear leaders of the Standard Bank Cain League.

They beat Valkyres on Saturday, while rival contenders Castletown lost to Peel.

Ramsey also had a big win over Crosby and are now just one point off the top.

Alex Stokoe was the star of the Tromode derby.

Bowling first, Valkyres took early wickets and at 14 for 2 Cronkbourne had problems.

Then Alex and Carl Wagstaffe came together for an unbroken stand of 133.

From the last ball of the innings, Stokoe cracked a four to bring up a century – his second of the season.

Needing 148 for victory, Valkyres struggled against Matty Ansell, who took two wickets for three runs from his four overs.

Shahzeb Raja and Will Grundy each made 19, but the side were dismissed for 77.

Little went right for Castletown at Mullen-e-Cloie.

Batting first against Peel they lost two wickets in the first over to Akkie Van Der Berg.

Despite 24 from Gareth Morris, the Town were all out for 78 after 16 overs.

Phil Littlejohns then gave a great display of aggressive batting.

He hammered 54 not out, which included 4 fours and no fewer than 5 sixes, as Peel swept to victory by nine wickets.

Ramsey returned to winning ways when they overcame Crosby by 90 runs.

Eddie Cleator was in top form, scoring 95 not out from his side’s 167 for 3.

Harry Rothwell led the Marown reply with 27, but the team fell well behind the run-rate and ended on 77 for 7.

Matt Grice bowled well to take 3 -6.
