Compromise deal for MGP 2013

by isleofman.com 3rd August 2012

A compromise deal has been reached between the Manx Motor Cycle Club and the
Department of Economic Development on the schedule for next year's Manx Grand Prix Festival.

It will remain a two-week long event with a week of practice and qualifying first.

The middle August Bank Holiday weekend will feature a three-day classic meeting including a new Classic T.T..

But the following Wednesday and Friday will see Manx Grand Prix races scheduled.

Tim Glover reports:-

Originally, Government wanted to re-name the whole event using the T.T. brand, shorten it to ten days and make classic bike racing the main feature.

That's not happened after much criticism and protest from interested parties.

The Manx Two-Day and Classic trials are also to remain as part of the Festival.

The Department of Economic Development will promote the Classic T.T. and contract the Manx Motor Cycle Club to deliver the races. The Club will be both promoter and organiser for the MGP element with financial assistance coming from the Department.

Although this has been agreed - it remains a provisional proposal and schedule and a title for the compromise festival will be confirmed shortly.
