MEA says overhead line fault caused outage

by isleofman.com 1st August 2012

A major power failure this afternoon affected around 10,000 customers, according to the Manx Electricity Authority.

The cause has been identified as an overhead line fault in Union Mills.

It created a widespread outage in the Douglas area, but also as far south as parts of Santon and as far west as parts of St John's.

Traffic lights were affected in some places, and the fire service reported having to help people trapped in lifts and deal with automatic fire alarms.

The MEA says the majority of supplies were back on within ninety minutes and the final ones were restored at around 6pm.

It's thanking people for calling in, which helped identify the areas affected and allowed engineers to restore power as quickly as possible.
