A team of walkers from GE Aviation (Team GE Aviators) have presented Crossroads Care with funds raised from completing the Parish Walk 2012.
The team, consisting of Brian Kelly, Mike Kaighin, Liam O’Malley and Paul Wood, walked a total of 316.5 miles within the 24 hour deadline and finished 5th out of 57 teams in the category.
Through the generosity of family, friends, work colleagues and sponsorship from Target Tools Ltd the team achieved another grand total of £1,750 funds raised for Crossroads Care.
Brian Kelly of Team GE Aviators said: “This year our Parish walk team put in a fantastic joint effort covering 316 miles between us (Myself 85 miles 17:53:07, Mike Kaighin 85 miles 19:45:51, Liam O Malley 85 miles 21:21:03 and Paul Wood 61 miles 16:27:05).”
“This was the second time that we had entered a team in the event and we were determined to put in a good performance and use the experience to help raise funds for a worthy cause. Although the race day weather was not ideal we all managed to achieve our personal goals.”
Liam O’Malley added: “This was the first time I had entered the event and I was determined to finish. Thankfully all the months of training paid off and my dream of finishing became a reality and with an added bonus of helping our chosen charity.”
Alex Wilson of Crossroads Care said: “It is really touching when individuals go the extra mile to support our worthy cause. Funds raised will provide more care hours to more people who provide the similarly sometimes difficult task of caring for a family member, friend or neighbour with an illness, disability, substance abuse or mental health issues. Congratulations and thanks to the team and best of luck for next year.”
Preparation for next year’s event has already begun for the team, who will be chasing another finish and raise more money for local charities.
