A team from Barclays Isle of Man claimed victory at the recent Manx2.com Plane Pull event, held at their hangar at Ronaldsway on Sunday 15 July. It’s the second time the event has taken place and this year teams were raising money for Manx2.com’s 2012 charity of the year Royal British Legion IOM.
The team of eight strongmen and women from Barclays gave a good account of themselves against rival crews, including Manx2.com’s ‘Pulling2gether’ and ‘Best of the Summer Wine’, who came second, ‘The Bacon Butties’ from Freedom Hospitality who came third and the ‘Resource Team’ from Isle of Man Airport. After their exertions, competitors enjoyed bacon and sausage baps, which were much appreciated and provided free of charge by Freedom Hospitality’s CEO Carl Moss, who was also part of third placed team, ‘The Bacon Butties’.
Barclays were a-loan at the head of the field as they hauled a five tonne aircraft over the 40 metre uphill course, watched by a host of spectators including Colonel Charles Wilson from the Royal British Legion IOM, who commented: ‘Thanks to Manx2.com for organising this unique event and to all those who took part, fundraised and donated.’
Manx2.com Chairman Noel Hayes said: ‘The event was great fun and congratulations must go to all the teams who took part, but especially Barclays who’ve taken home the cup for this year. Anyone interested in challenging them for 2013 please do get in touch – we can always accommodate more teams.’
