Fire prompts hotel evacuation

Firefighters are investigating the cause of a blaze which saw a hotel on Douglas Promenade evacuated on Monday.

The fire broke out shortly after 11pm and caught hold in cardboard boxes and a cooling unit at the back of the building on Harris Promenade.

Hotel staff had tried to tackle the flames, which were put out by fire crews.

The hotel was evacuated safely and nobody was injured.
