Wildlife watch proves treaty importance

The Island’s Environment Minister says marine wildlife spotted off our coasts this week highlights the need for a new treaty that comes into force next week.

The Island’s obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity begin in early August when we become one of 193 nations promising to come up with a biodiversity strategy by 2015.

Phil Gawne MHK says it’s vital to protect ecosystems – and for the Isle of Man that’s particularly important in the marine environment.

He says sightings of basking sharks, dolphins and porpoises this week show us what's at stake:
