Coroner of Inquests John Needham has explained his reasoning behind a narrative verdict into the death of a man after an altercation in Douglas.
Baggage handler Carl Mark Green died after a scuffle with Ryan Oakey at his daughter’s home in February last year.
The inquest heard Mr Green had suffered from serious heart problems, but Oakey, who was later jailed for 16 months for making threats to kill and affray, couldn’t have known about them.
Mr Needham said this would rule out a verdict of unlawful killing and there was enough evidence about Mr Green’s death to discount an open verdict.
The court heard Mr Green had gone to his daughter’s home in Wesley Terrace in Douglas in the early hours of February 12th last year after she rang him to say Oakey was drunk and violent.
There was an argument and a scuffle and Mr Green left with his wife and daughter – only to die later from his heart disorder.
But Mr Needham said there was no evidence Oakey had injured Mr Green or known he could harm him because of his health problems.
Recording a narrative verdict, he said Mr Green died when he did because of the emotional disturbance caused by the violent incident.
