Basking sharks bounce back

Are basking sharks bouncing back after their numbers were thinned by hunting in the twentieth century?

A new study from the Marine Conservation Society and Exeter University says the gentle giant’s numbers have been steadily increasing over the past twenty years, and more animals are living longer to breed.

Eleanor Stone of the Manx Wildlife Trust says it’s very difficult to estimate how many sharks there are because they’re so elusive.

But she says there are indications the population is growing.
