Ring those bells urges bishop

by isleofman.com 26th July 2012

The Lord Bishop has called on Island churches to join the nationwide bell-ringing tomorrow morning to mark the start of the Olympic Games.

Bishop Robert Paterson spoke out after local bell ringers said they would not be take part because the event had been organised too late in the day and their organisation had not been consulted.

They also said a three minute ring was not practical as large church bells are designed to be rung slowly.

The project called 'All the Bells' is part of a major cultural festival running alongside the games and aims to see bells of all shapes and sizes rung as quickly and loudly as possible for three minutes from 0812 tomorrow morning.

Bishop Robert says there's no point being silly about what is essentially a fun event.

He wants to hear bells ring the length and breadth of the Island:
