Island will have to consider possible flu vaccination scheme

by isleofman.com 25th July 2012

The Island will examine the UK scheme to offer free flu vaccination to all children before deciding whether to introduce a similar initiative here.

It was announced today that from 2014, all children in the UK between the ages of 2 and 17 will be eligible for the vaccination which would be administered via a nasal spray at schools and doctors' surgeries.

It's claimed that up to two thousand lives a year could be saved.

However, Director of Public Health on the Island, Dr Parameshwaran Kishore, says as it could cost anything up to ?300,000 per year for a similar scheme on the Island, he will have to decide if the benefits would justify the expenditure
