Police are hunting the driver of a 4x4 which nearly hit a horse on a minor road near Tynwald Mills yesterday afternoon, and drove off.
The horse and its rider were heading down from the Poortown Road, on the Glen Mooar Road, just before the left hand turn off at the white bridge to Tynwald Mills, some time between 3pm and 3.30pm.
The police say a blue or green 4x4 came down in the same direction at such speed that the driver only saw the horse and rider at the last moment and swerved to avoid hitting them.
The speed, and sound of the brakes spooked the horse, which bolted and slipped on the road.
It fell and was nearly hit by the vehicle.
The rider managed to jump off into a hedge otherwise she would have been thrown into the path of the vehicle.
The horse sustained substantial cuts and injuries to its front legs, also facial injuries.
Police are requesting information about the vehicle or driver as they didn't stop.
They say the driver would have seen the horse lying in the road with the rider, yet drove on at speed.
Call police headquarters on 631212 if you have any information about the incident.
