Chemin de la Liberte trek - unforgettable

by isleofman.com 14th July 2012

Two Manxmen say a challenging mountain trek in the footsteps of history has sparked memories which will last a lifetime.

Honorary Colonel Charles Wilson and orthopaedic surgeon Tony Green took part in a walk along the Pyrenean Freedom Trail - or Chemin de la Liberte.

It was the route taken by escapees - both soldiers and civilians - in the second world war, fleeing (occupied) Vichy France into neutral Spain.

Speaking at the end of the trek, Major Wilson – who was raising money for the Island's poppy appeal – said it was memorable.
