Minister says Rio move vitally important

An important step forward on the international stage.

That’s how the Environment Minister has described the decision the Manx government will become a signatory to the Rio Convention on Bio-diversity.

It’s a worldwide agreement designed to conserve the breadth of animal and plant species worldwide and promote the sustainable use of resources.

Phil Gawne says the convention – which will come into force here next month – is long overdue.
