Probe over water treatment failure

Officials are investigating why the Douglas water treatment plant failed to operated as expected yesterday.

Water Authority chief executive Peter Winstanley says facility should've coped with heavy rain - but an unexpected failure means many customers on the Island are having to boil their drinking water today.

He says the water isn't contaminated, but it's simply not up to the usual standard of cleanliness.

Mr Winstanley says an investigation is ongoing:
