The Isle of Man Water & Sewerage Authority has issued a Boil Notice for water supplied from Douglas Water Treatment works.
This Boil Notice will be in operation for 48 hours from 8 July 2012.
Affected areas are: Douglas, Onchan, Baldrine, Lower Laxey, Crosby, Marown, Glen Vine, Santon, Ballasalla, Castletown, Ballabeg, Colby, Arbory, Port Erin and Port St Mary.
The Department of Health 'Boil Your Water' information leaflet advises that it should be sufficient to bring water to the boil by using an electric kettle. To avoid any injuries you should boil a kettle last thing at night and allow the water to cool overnight. This cooled, boiled water can then be stored in the fridge for up to 48 hours.
Cold water or hot drinks from vending or dispensing machines which are not attached to the mains water system can also be consumed.
You must use water which has been boiled for:
- Drinking
- Preparing babies' feeds and disinfecting feeding equipment
preparing food, including ice cubes and salads - Pet food and drink
- Washing open wounds
- Cleaning teeth
You can use untreated tap water for:
- Bathing and washing - take care not to swallow water whilst showering
- Washing dishes - use hot water and dry thoroughly before use
- Washing clothes
- Flushing the toilet
