Steep sum raised in youngster's bike ride for breast cancer

by isleofman.com 3rd July 2012

An eight year old boy from Peel has raised more than ?4000 for cancer research on a solo charity bike ride.

Matthew Cooil organised a sponsored cycle from Langness to the Point Ayre on Saturday, after his auntie Leonie, a teacher at Q.E 11 high school was diagnosed with breast cancer.

His youngster sister held a cake sale at St John's on the day, raising almost ?500 alone.

And last week pupils and staff at the school raised ?450 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer at a dress-down 'pink day'.

Matthew's ride took three-and-a-quarter hours, and by the time he reached Bride he'd made such good progress he had to stop to let the support crew catch up!

His dad Marcus says it's a huge sum to have raised and the family's very proud of him:
