Hydrogen option explored

The benefits of producing hydrogen fuel to power vehicles has been demonstrated in the Isle of Man.

Trials have been underway to show the Department of Infrastructure how the fuel is made, using only water and electricity from a transportable hydrogen production unit.

It refuels adapted vehicles at the point of production and can also power fuel cells of electric cars.

In the long term, using electricity from renewable sources, the technology could reduce the Island's dependence on imported fuel.

Charles Purkess from UK clean tech firm ITM Power, which staged the trial, says it's suitable for large fleets of public service vehicles:
