Cowboys warning from OFT

by isleofman.com 28th June 2012

Manx home owners are being warned against 'cowboy' builders that could swindle local residents.

The Office of Fair Trading is emphasizing caution to anyone who's been offered cheap and quick labour from independent workers.

People often fall victim to these builders because they can start work straight away. However officials are urging the public to take extra care when considering their options.

Chief Inspector of Trading Standards John Peet is offering tips on how to spot the bad from the good.

Some key things to look out for are builders approaching households offering to carry out work, requiring cash payment upfront, without written quotes.

For more information you can contact Mr Peet on 686526 or visit iomfairtrading@gov.im
