Worries over Island's secure unit

by isleofman.com 27th June 2012

Union bosses say they’re dismayed at cutbacks at the Island’s secure unit for children just outside Douglas.

The White Hoe facility is run by the charity St Christopher’s and the Department of Social Care has confirmed it will halve the number of bedrooms at the unit available all year round.

The moves come as the department tries to slash running costs from ?1.4 million to just ?700,000 a year.

Steve Salter of Unite says the cuts will be bad news for the Island’s young people.
