The chief minister says the decision to remove Peter Karran from his post as education minister is purely political.
Mr Karran lost his job as head of the department on Wednesday, less than a day after opposing government plans for the film industry – a breach of ministerial guidelines.
Health Minister David Anderson, a former education minister, has taken on the role on an interim basis.
