Pre-school provision from September 2012

by isleofman.com 22nd June 2012

In response to comments made to the media this week, the Department of Education and Children wishes to make clear the position with regard to pre-school provision.

The Department of Education and Children will cease to provide pre-school places from the end of the summer term.

Following the removal of Peter Karran MHK as Minister for Education and Children this week, Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK made it absolutely clear that there will be no change of policy on the matter of pre-schools , saying: ‘The decision has been made. The new process is underway, the budgetary provision is in place and it will continue as before.’

New providers are in place for the majority of the Department’s existing pre-schools, with initial two-year agreements.

The majority of DEC staff affected have been redeployed to other posts. The Department and the Council of Ministers’ working party on pre-school provision are satisfied that good quality bids have been received for the leasing of premises and we look forward to working with the new operators from September.
