Diesel train to cost less than planned

Tynwald next month is to be asked to say 'yes' to spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on a diesel engine for Manx railways.

But the money now being asked for is half the original figure. That's because a second hand unit from Romania is being earmarked, as opposed to a new diesel.

There are other diesels available.

However, Ian Longworth, Director of Public Transport, says they wouldn't be up to the job.
