Milner's Tower set for renovation

by isleofman.com 22nd June 2012

A landmark in the south of the Island is to be renovated by the government at a cost of ?90,000.

Milner's Tower, on Bradda Head in Port Erin, will undergo repairs to make damaged walls watertight.

It was constructed as a viewing tower in 1871 in memory of William Milner.

Ownership was transferred to the Manx government three years ago.

Andy Johnston, field archaeologist for Manx National Heritage, says Milner was for Port Erin what benefactor Henry Bloom Noble was for Douglas.

Milner's Tower will be closed to the public from the end of June for about 10 weeks while the work takes place.
