'No choice' for Bell and 'no regrets' for Karran over minister's sacking

by isleofman.com 21st June 2012

The Chief Minister insists he had ‘no choice’ but to sack Peter Karran as Education Minister.

Mr Karran was yesterday removed after just eight months in the post for opposing government plans to invest millions of pounds in the film industry.

His Liberal Vannin Party had earlier raised serious concerns over the proposals.

Allan Bell admits the decision was taken reluctantly but ultimately Mr Karran’s actions were a clear breach of ministerial responsibility (first part of audio file).

Peter Karran said he fully accepted the sacking.

But stressed his position on the film industry was clear and he had no regrets over his time in the department, including the controversial pre-schools row (second part of audio file).
