Verdict of accidental death on Castletown man

by isleofman.com 20th June 2012

An inquest has recorded a verdict of accidental death on a Castletown man who died earlier this year.

46-year-old Barry Sumner lost his life after coming off his motorbike near the Fairy Bridge on January 3rd.

The accident happened around 6.15 am as he was travelling towards Douglas. There had been very stormy weather overnight and in the dark his machine collided with a large piece of debris which had blown into the road.

A car travelling in the opposite direction collided with Mr Sumner after he was thrown from his machine but the driver was unaware it was the rider as there was very poor visibility and he couldn't see clearly what had happened.

He stopped his car to investigate and found Mr Sumner in the road.

The inquest was attended by Mr Sumner's family and friends who said they were grateful for everyone's efforts on the day. They'd never attributed blame to anyone and were happy with the conclusion of the court.
