New commissioner vows to 'keep in touch'

Newly-elected Onchan Commissioner David Scambler says he will do all he can to ensure the authority stays in touch with ratepayers.

Mr Scambler topped the poll in Thursday's by-election, comfortably beating his two rivals for the vacant seat.

But he's disappointed at the low turnout, which saw just 15 per cent of voters go to the polls.

The 35 year-old, who's lived in the village for most of his life, says he was dismayed at the level of disillusionment with local government while on the campaign trail:
