Police are investigating a report of a six year old boy being approached by a man in the area of Harcroft Meadows, Douglas.
It happened around 8.30am on Monday 11th June.
The man is described as white, between 30 and 50 years old and around 5’6” tall, with shoulder length, dark greasy hair which was greying and with glasses. He was wearing a tan coloured “Barbour” style coat and blue washed out denim jeans and looked somewhat unkempt.
He left the area riding an old style bicycle, which it's believed was a red colour.
Inspector Phil Shimmin says police are treating the investigation seriously and enquiries are ongoing. Officers have been conducting extra patrols of the area.
The incident has been the subject of some discussion on social media websites and there has been speculation as to who may be responsible. Inspector Shimmin is appealing to the public not to name individuals in cases such as these as this could have legal consequences. Anyone who believes they know the identity of the man should contact Police Headquarters or Crimestoppers.
Police say they are keen to allay fears that there has been a sudden increase of similar incidents in the area but add that parents should always stress "stranger danger" and road safety messages to their children.
