The tablet computer is the prize in a draw for those who help the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture track down trees that are hit by the Dutch elm beetle. Those trees can then be destroyed, the only way to stop the fungus infection spreading.
The Island is trying to protect its stand of elms, one of the finest in the British Isles.
The main symptoms are wilting of leaves and young shoots, premature yellowing of leaves and retention of dead leaves during summer.
Anyone with the use of iPhone or Android apps is invited to submit a photograph of a suspect elm tree, giving the location and a description of its condition.
