Olympic torch reaches parts no flame has been before

by isleofman.com 13th June 2012

A replica Olympic torch has toured parts of the Island beyond the official relay route.

Torchbearer Henry da Silva organised an alternative tour on Sunday, starting in Port St Mary, continuing through outlying villages and towns to complete the journey at Ramsey Town Hall.

He was joined by sports men and women along the way, who carried the torch used by Henry earlier this month when the Olympic relay tour came to the Isle of Man, taking it on different modes of transport.

Meeting him at the town hall, Ramsey Town Commissioner Dr Alex Allinson, lead member for parks and leisure, thanked Mr da Silva and his supporters for providing many more Island residents the opportunity to share in the excitement of London 2012.
