Film industry plans questioned

by isleofman.com 8th June 2012

A Liberal Vannin MHK says a proposed plan by the Manx government to buy shares in Pinewood Shepperton studios raises "an awful lot of questions".

The scheme was announced by Treasury Minister Eddie Teare earlier this week, after the Oxford Economics report suggested that the industry seems to have been in decline on the Island for several years.

The proposal would bring the Island into close contact with Pinewood parent company Peel Holdings and its owner local resident and billionaire John Whittaker.

South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft says whilst she would love the scheme to be a good deal for the Island, questions need answering before she can support it.

A presentation on the plans will be made to MHKs on Monday.

Tynwald is due to vote on the plans later this month
