Make way for the Segway!

A popular new form of two-wheeled transport could be seen on Douglas promenade in the near future.

The Segway can get you over short distances from A to B avoiding traffic, fuel bills or the need for a parking space.

A supplier of the motorised contraptions has approached the Department of Infrastructure about Segway hire trials on the prom.

There are legal hurdles to clear first and an order to allow the motorised devices on the walkway to be advertised soon, would have to be passed before trials go ahead.

Director of Highways Richard Pearson says the Segway has potential in the capital:
