Yamaha Keeps IOM TT Races on Track by Providing Travelling Marshals Bikes

by isleofman.com 5th June 2012

Leading Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha has again partnered with The Isle of Man TT Races as the official motorcycle partner of the 2012 event. The deal sees the company provide 11 bikes for the critical role of travelling marshals throughout qualifying and racing at the 2012 Isle of Man TT Races. The company has provided a number of high spec Yamaha FZ1 Fazer and Yamaha YZF R1’s.

The FZ1 Fazer’s 998cc Supersport based in-line 4 cylinder engine is perfectly suited to the demanding conditions and requirements of the travelling marshal role while the MotoGP inspired R1 now comes complete with seven level Traction control, giving greater control while exiting corners.

The bikes have been sourced from Yamaha Motor UK with assistance from the Isle of Man’s authorised Yamaha dealership Road and Track and all of the machines that are used around the TT course will be available to buy shortly after the event.

The travelling marshals, all of whom are first aid trained, play a vital role in the Isle of Man TT races safety programme, where speed of response is vital. The marshals are positioned around the 37¾ mile course and are able to provide a rapid response to any incidents. All of the bikes carry medical equipment that can assist in managing a casualty.

The role of travelling marshal is by invitation only and all the marshals have previous race experience of the Mountain Course, having competed in either the TT or the Manx Grand Prix.

Simon Belton, Marketing Manager, Yamaha, commented:

“We are delighted to be involved with the Isle of Man TT Races and the event gives us a great platform to demonstrate the capability of our bikes. Yamaha has a long history of involvement in the TT Races and we are delighted to build on this association and adding to our history.”

Geoff Corkish, MBE, MHK, Political Member for Isle of Man Tourism, commented:

“Yamaha, like many of our commercial partners, provide their expertise and knowledge in helping us to deliver the event. They play a major role in the organisation of the event and we are delighted to have the backing of such a prestigious company.”
