Jubilee beacons lit

by isleofman.com 4th June 2012

The Island’s six jubilee beacons were lit earlier this evening, marking the Queen’s diamond jubilee at ceremonies around the Island.

In Peel, St John’s, Douglas, Lonan, Patrick and Slieau Lhost, fires were lit as part of a commemoration involving 4,000 beacons around the world.

Atop Peel Hill, a Viking torchlight procession lit the first of the fires at 10pm.

And to mark the occasion, Vikings of Mann chairman John Shakespeare played Ellan Vannin to the delight of the crowd.
