by isleofman.com 4th June 2012

Jubilee beacons to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee are being lit around the Isle of Man tonight.

In Douglas, the beacon will stand on the tower of St Ninian's church.

It'll be lit at 10.15pm by mayor David Ashford and Archdeacon Canon Andrew Brown, in a ceremony organised by the borough council

Council members, officers and guests have been invited, with Douglas Town Band providing the music.

In the west of the Island, the public are invited to join a torchlight parade to the lighting of the beacon on Peel Hill.

Vikings of Mann have organised the Manx-style Jubilee celebration and will be mustering at the Mill Yard from 8pm tonight.

Elsewhere, the Isle of Man government beacon will be lit at 10.15pm on the Green at St John's by Leisure minister Tim Crookall and MHK Geoff Corkish.

Island Freemasons are lighting a beacon at Strenaby Farm in Lonan while Isle of Man Civil Defence volunteers are also joining the network of more than 4000 beacons around the world, lighting theirs at Slieau Lhost.
