Island ready to light jubilee beacons

by isleofman.com 4th June 2012

The countdown is on as the Island prepares to light its beacons commemorating the Diamond Jubilee this evening.

Tonight, beacons will be lit in Lonan, Patrick, St John’s, Slieau Lhost and Douglas to mark the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

In Douglas, the council will light its beacon on the top of St Ninian’s Church tower at 10.15 pm precisely.

Douglas Town Band will provide music, and the public are welcome to attend.

Mayor David Ashford says it’s taken some preparation, but all is now ready for the big night.
