Manx prepare for jubilee flotilla

by isleofman.com 3rd June 2012

A Manx Viking longship and a Peel lifeboat volunteer will represent the Isle of Man in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant in London today (Sunday).

The longship will be crewed by a team of 12 from the Island in the manpowered section of the flotilla.

The vessel was transported by freighter from Ramsey to Lancashire on Wednesday and taken by road to London.

Meanwhile station mechanic at Peel RNLI Paul Cain will join 12 volunteers from around the UK on board a Tamar class lifeboat.

Around 1000 boats are taking part in the river pageant, from tall ships to kayaks.

The event has been 18 months in the planning.

Paul told us the lifeboat will be close to the barge carrying Her Majesty:
