A day to remember!

by isleofman.com 2nd June 2012

History has been made in the Isle of Man!

The London 2012 Olympic torch has been carried by 26 Island residents, travelling on different types of transport, including a TT sidecar, lifeboat and horse tram.

Among those carrying the flame on day 15 of the torch relay was three-time World Enduro Champion, David Knight.

Thousands saw torchbearers across the Island in an event that will be recorded in history and remembered for many generations to come.

It arrived in Laxey on the Manx Electric Railway in the hands of torch bearer Cai Beynon.

On its arrival in Laxey, it was met with a reception of hundreds of people, including lots of excited children (audio file attached):

It ended its day in the Island with a flight to Belfast, ahead of a five day visit to Northern Ireland.
