Queenie Festival touch tanks get Co-op support

by isleofman.com 1st June 2012

The Manx Co-operative has very kindly agreed to sponsor the Manx Wildlife Trust Touch Tanks at this year’s Isle of Man Queenie Festival Marine Weekend.

The extremely valuable support will go a long way in helping to cover the costs of setting up this popular attraction and ensure it will continue to be a part of the festival in years to come.

Eleanor Stone, Marine Officer for The Manx Wildlife Trust commented “The Trust is delighted to have the support of the Manx Co-op at this year's Queenie Festival, in addition to the generous assistance they have given us on other projects. The Touch Tank Tent is always really popular, giving children, and their equally excited parents, a chance to get up close to some of our amazing marine life. To hold a crab or stroke a starfish for the first time is an unforgettable moment and, with the help of the Manx Co-op, we hope a lot more people will be able to have that experience.”

The Manx Wildlife Trust has been putting on touch tank displays since the days of ‘Marine Day’ at the Port Erin Marine Laboratory. In the recent years they have become a central part of the Queenie Festival and one of the most popular attractions. The touch tanks are enthralling and loved by everyone, adults and children alike. The underwater critters are weird, wonderful and beautiful, coming in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours and give the public the opportunity to get close up and interact with the many creatures in our surrounding waters. All the animals come from around our coastline – some from our tide pools, some from the sandy shallows and some from deeper waters.

The Isle of Man Queenie Festival takes place between 29 June and 1 July. For more information on the Isle of Man Queenie Festival please visit www.queeniefestival.com.
