Olympic torch heads for Island

by isleofman.com 1st June 2012

Months of planning for the Isle of Man's role in the 2012 Olympic torch relay will be put to the test tomorrow (Saty) when the flame arrives in the Island.

A team of Metropolitan Police officers are providing a security cordon for the flame throughout its 8000 mile journey around the UK, and will ensure its safety on Manx soil.

Island police officers have been in close contact with the Met team and on Saturday will police the route and deal with traffic.

Contingency plans have been drawn-up to deal with any incident which could threaten the flame's safe passage in and out of the Island, or delay the 26 torch bearers carrying it from Douglas to Laxey and back through Onchan and Castletown.

If you want to find out exact timings for the torch along its route, there's a link on the main government website: gov.im

And a map's available from the official relay website: london2012.com/torch-relay/

Chief Inspector Kevin Willson says they've planned every detail
