The next stage of the ‘Transforming Government’ Programme will take place on the 1st June 2012. The programme was set up following the restructure of Isle of Man Government in April 2010, to reduce costs and make the delivery of services more efficient and effective.

A major aim of the programme is to bring together common and duplicate services across Government to increase efficiency and reduce costs.  So far, Finance, Human Resources and Procurement functions have been brought together and are already delivering cost savings.  In addition, a new Strategic Asset Management Unit has been created within the Department’s Properties Division and has responsibility for the management and oversight of all Government property assets. 

The Department of Infrastructure was designated as having responsibility for creating the Estates Shared Service for Government and is already serving several Departments including Home Affairs, Economic Development and Community, Culture and Leisure.

The next significant phase of the project will see the transfer of the Department of Education and Children’s Works Division, Estate Management and Resources to Estate Shared Services.

Minister for Infrastructure David Cretney MHK said:  “It is recognised that by bringing together the separate Estates functions across Government, it will be possible to provide consistency of service, reduce duplication and better utilise the skilled workforce that currently exists across Government. Ultimately, over time, it will result in a new way of working which will ensure that the assets owned by Government are used to the maximum effectiveness reducing costs incurred.’
